शिव पुराण में है वर्णन Shivji ka Parivar
- शिव पुराण में भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती की पुत्रियों का वर्णन मिलता है। शिव पुराण में लिखित कथा के अनुसार, भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती सरोवर में ध्यान मग्न थे कि उसी समय भगवान शिव के मुख पर एक मंद मुस्कान आई।
- उस मुस्कान से 5 मोती सरोवर में झड़ कर गिर गए। उन पांच मोतियों से पांच कन्याओं का जन्म हुआ लेकिन यह कन्याएं मनुष्य रूप में होने के स्थान पर नाग रूप में जन्मी थीं
- पुत्रियों के साथ खेलने जाते थे भगवान शिव
- ध्यान मग्न होने के कारण माता पार्वती को इस बात की कोई जानकारी न थी कि महादेव की मुस्कान से पुत्रियों का जन्म हुआ है किन्तु महादेव को इस बात का आभास था।
- महादेव अपनी अन्य संतानों की तरह ही अपनी पुत्रियों से प्रेम करते थे और इन पांच नाग पुत्रियों के साथ नियमित रूप से भोर काल के ब्रह्म मुहूर्त में खेलने भी जाया करते थे।
- एक दिन माता पार्वती को आश्चर्य हुआ कि भगवान शिव इतनी भोर में कहां जाते हैं। माता पार्वती सत्य का पता लगाने भगवान शिव के पीछे पीछे चल दीं।
- जब माता पार्वती सरोवर के पास पहुंची तब उन्होंने भगवान शिव को उन पांच कन्याओं पर पिता की भांति अपार प्रेम लुटाते देखा लेकिन पत्नी प्रेम से पूर्ण होने के कारण माता पार्वती के मन में भय उत्पन्न हुआ कि कहीं ये नाग कन्याएं महादेव को आहात न कर दें।
- इसी कारण से माता पार्वती ने इन कन्याओं का अंत करने का निर्णय किया। भगवान शिव माता पार्वती की मंशा भांप गए और उन्होंने माता पार्वती को रोक लिया। माता पार्वती के भगवान शिव से पूछने पर उन्हें उन नाग कन्याओं की माता होने का सत्य ज्ञात हुआ।

- भगवान शिव की इन पांच नाग कन्याओं के नाम जया, विषहर, शामिलबारी, देव और दोतलि है। शिव पुराण में इस बात का उल्लेख है कि भगवान शिव ने अपनी पुत्रियों को विशेष वरदान दिया है।
- इस वरदान के अनुसार, जो भी व्यक्ति महादेव की पूजा के साथ साथ उन नाग कन्याओं की भी पूजा करेगा उसके परिवार को कभी भी सर्पदंश का भय नहीं रहेगा। इसके साथ ही इन नाग देवियों की कृपा से कभी भी धन-धान्य में कमी नहीं होगी।
